QUIT: Experimental Game Design

2021

'QUIT' is a Unity-based game that revolves around a corporate employee who is struggling with the decision to resign, which I worked as the level designer annd programmer. Players navigate the character's inner turmoil by interacting with various in-game items, each holding fragments of his memories. These recollections are crucial to understanding his true feelings about his job. Set within a limited timeframe, the game challenges players to piece together these memories to reach a final decision. It offers an introspective journey into the complexities of career and personal fulfilment.

'QUIT' also represents an effort in integrating narrative depth within the framework of video game design, marking a significant first in my creative journey. Conceptually, the game is carefully crafted to ensure that the narrative, game loop, level design, and environment are in interconnected. The storyline, depicting an employee's internal conflict over resignation, is woven seamlessly into the game mechanics, where each in-game item and level is a metaphorical representation of the character's memories and emotions. This thoughtful integration ensures that players are not just progressing through levels but are actively engaging with the character's story, making each decision and discovery a meaningful part of the overall narrative arc. The environment further amplifies this experience, providing a visual and interactive canvas that reflects the character's psychological landscape, making 'QUIT'not just a game, but a narrative journey.
