'Abyss: Anonymous' is a side-view game that relies on environment design and building workflow to create an immersive gaming experience, while I led level design and environment design/building. The game was developed using the Unity engine and takes players on a journey through a spaceship, navigating meticulously crafted levels influenced by environmental themes such as ice, lava, and rock.
Regarding the process of building the environment, the development of 'Abyss: Anonymous' follows a meticulous and structured workflow. The journey begins with the creation of detailed concept art. At this stage, the artistic team carefully contemplates and crafts the visual style and tone for each environment, setting a robust atmospheric foundation for the levels that follow. This stage is important as it establishes the aesthetic direction and lays the groundwork for integrating the game's mechanics within these environments. After the concept art stage, the process transitions into greybox development. Here, the basic layout of the levels is constructed, and the fundamental structures and mechanics are refined. This stage is crucial in ensuring that the environmental themes are not only visually appealing but also mechanically sound and functional. It is during this stage that the game's mechanics are intricately woven into the environmental design, ensuring a cohesive and immersive gaming experience.
The final output represent the culmination of this process, where the environments are fully developed, presenting players with richly detailed and strategically challenging worlds. The deliberate and focused workflow in the environment building process ensures that each level in 'Abyss: Anonymous' is not only visually appealing but also a testament to the harmonious integration of design and mechanics.
